Stephen is Professor of Film, TV and Games Composition in the Department of Creative and Digital Technologies at the University of Chichester.
His research, which was rated as world leading in terms of impact, is now largely practice-based and is focused principally on composition for the moving image, and especially investigating questions of immersivity, virtual reality and genre. Chapters in forthcoming books include Ludomusicology: Approaches to Video Game Music for Equinox Publishing and Screen, Music, Sound for Routledge.
Stephen has presented his research widely at conferences and lectures in Oxford, Utrecht, Liverpool, Southampton and Falmouth Universities, and has been an invited speaker at many industry events, including master classes at the British Film Institute in London. He regularly assesses MA film composition students' work at the National Film and Television School.
